About Purgatory Pizza

Located at 1326 1st St, Los Angeles, CA 90033, Purgatory Pizza operates as a pizza restaurant serving Los Angeles in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.

Pizza places in the United States run from a counter with two stools and a stack of boxes to a full sit-down pizzeria with a bar, and most neighborhood shops do all three things at once: dine-in, takeout and delivery. Ordering by phone is still common and often faster than an app, and many independents charge less when you call direct because there is no platform fee. Sizes are usually listed in inches (a small around 10", a large 14", an extra-large 16" or more), and a large feeds two to three adults. Slices are sold from a display case at New York-style counters and reheated to order; whole pies take 15-25 minutes at a busy shop. Most spots take cards and mobile pay, though a few older pizzerias remain cash-only, so check the door or the listing before you order.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. Typical hours are 11 am–10 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Purgatory Pizza at (323) 262-5310; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, clover.com.

Customers rate it 4.6 out of 5 on Google across 1,538 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded pizza restaurants in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Traffic in Los Angeles peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Always a solid slice. Now I am not one for a Detroit style pizza, but can I say this one is the acception. It looked good and well worth it. Also highly recommend their blackberry pear bucha!!! Garlic knots are a hit and can't forget about their pesto pasta. I'll be back for more bucha and try the calzones next time. The staff was great and friendly too!!! I recommend order ahead for pick up just because their is little parking available.

Step off the E line train into the coolest pizza spot in SoCal. Literally, the E-line stops right in front, at the Pico Aliso station, first stop east of downtown. I'm not a vegan but the Vegan and Sarah Pizza is amazing. So is Midnight in the Garden. All the pizzas are good, both the thin and Sicilian thick crust. People are super cool. Decent beer selection. Family friendly. Live music on the weekend evenings in the back.

This place is really fun . I did not get a vegan signature dish I made my own vegan pizza because I wanted jalapenos and other things on lol . You can also get vegan parmesan on the side. This pizza place was very tasty for sure and would definitely come back. It's really tasty πŸ˜‹. And the name is fun lol. The bathroom was weird I'd definitely ask them and make sure it's ok. They have a secret button in there which is very interesting lol 🀣 I was too afraid to push it on the wall lol 🀣 also the garlic knots could definitely order a ton more next time .

I've been to Purgatory in the past , I always thought their pizza was decent. Fresh ingredients. Fairly priced. Fast-forward to 2025, and quality has gone down. I give their pizza a 4.0 out of 10. First time trying their wings, no flavor on either the wings or the sauce. They were decently cooked just no taste to them. Service can be better, I was waiting for my pie and wings for almost and hour, after I reminded them about my order, I noticed that my order was sitting on top of the ovens the whole time, and was handed a cold dried pizza, I warmed it up at home, which I don't mind , but the pizza quality still didn't hold up on its own. Staff needs to be more attentive on orders that are just sitting on top of their ovens, on why they haven't gone out. Seems like they don't care handing out cold food. I don't mind paying a premium price for QUALITY food, but this place is not worth it.

UPDATED! I want to thank management and the PP team for doing right by their customers. I honestly appreciate that most of all and it's what will keep me a customer for as long as the calzones stay amazing, no matter the cost. (pls see before and after pics) I've been a Purgatory customer for over 10 yrs because I love the calzones, even though they are sometimes inconsistent in size. Today's calzone, however, left me beyond disappointed as it was more like a hot pocket! I don't know if my order was understood or not, the guy taking orders was somewhat rude and didn't give me a receipt. I ordered and really wanted extra pepperoni, mushrooms and pineapple....please see the following photo for what I actually got. I'm sorta sad because the price of the calzones has gone up so significantly from the time I first discovered them, and I happily pay no matter what if only I got what I ordered.
